Why roofers offer financing at all
Because it closes jobs. Homeowners increasingly expect to finance through the contractor: in a Modernize survey of more than 3,100 homeowners, about 30% planned to use financing for their project, and more than a quarter of those preferred a loan arranged through the contractor (ACHR News). A roofer who can quote "about $280 a month" wins the job the roofer quoting "$14,000" loses. That's good for you too, as long as the plan behind the pitch is a fair one.
Where to find roofing contractors with financing available
- Ask in the quote request. "Do you offer financing, and through whom?" A roofer with a real program will name the lender or the marketplace.
- Look for it on the quote. Reputable programs put a monthly payment estimate and the lender's name on the written estimate.
- Check the roofer's website for a financing page or an "apply" link.
- Use our city pages. AL Elite partner roofers in 20 storm-prone metros are listed with links, and they offer financing through our network.
- Manufacturer programs. Some shingle manufacturers certify contractors who offer manufacturer-backed financing.
The five questions that expose a bad plan
- Is the interest deferred or waived during the promotion? Deferred means you owe all of it if you miss the deadline.
- What's the APR after the promotional period? If they can't tell you, walk.
- Is there a dealer fee, and is it in my price? Low-APR plans are often funded by a fee the roofer pays and passes on. Ask for the cash price too.
- Who is the lender? You should be able to look them up.
- Will you match a quote if I bring my own financing? A fair roofer will quote the same price either way.
Red flags
- Any offer to waive, absorb or "handle" your insurance deductible. Illegal in many states.
- Pressure to sign the financing before you've seen the full itemized quote.
- "Guaranteed approval" or "no credit check" language. Legitimate lenders check credit.
- A monthly payment with no stated term or APR.
- A price that goes up when you say you'll pay cash.
When to bring your own loan instead
If the roofer's plan carries deferred interest, a high post-promo APR or a dealer fee, an independent personal loan is often cheaper and always simpler: fixed rate, fixed term, no surprises. AL Elite shows you both kinds of lender so you can compare side by side. Our six-option guide covers the full set.
Frequently asked questions
Do roofing companies offer financing?
Many do, through lender partners, marketplaces like AL Elite or manufacturer programs. Ask for it in the quote request and compare the plan's terms with an independent loan.
Is contractor roof financing a good deal?
Sometimes. Promotional plans can be competitive if you pay within the window and the dealer fee isn't inflating your price. Deferred-interest plans and high post-promo APRs are not.
Can a roofer finance my deductible?
A roofer can connect you with legitimate financing for the deductible. A roofer cannot waive or absorb it; that's insurance fraud in many states.
